Is my GPU dying?

Went to boot my desktop tonight and it got stuck at POST seemingly. No screen, GPU fan at maximum (always happens before Windows starts, handy indicator really). I unplugged the DVI cable and it booted to Windows but plugging the DVI cable back in resulted in a black screen (not "no signal"). Tried again with HDMI and the result was the same: didn't boot when plugged in, got a black screen if plugged in after boot.

As a last resort I removed the GPU, blew into the power socket and connectors, reseated it, and now everything's fine. I'm kinda concerned it might happen again though. Is this a sign of a dying GPU or just one of those weird things? Rig is in signature.

What software would be used to stress test a GPU? I've only ever overclocked CPUs so don't know much about GPU stress testing.

If the GPU was dying it'll show artifacts most likely. Did u even see the post screen. Go black after a certain point or complete black with nothing from the moment u boot up

just use games to stress the gpu

was pc powered on from cold? could be cold boot issue?
Well I played for an hour or so and everything was fine. No artefacts either.

No, the monitor didn't acknowledge any signal when plugged in before booting. Only if I plugged it in after booting would I get a signal, but then it was just black.

Anyway, it seems as if it had just got loose somehow. I'll bump this thread if it happens again!
