Is my GPU dying

Hi,


I’ve been running an RTX 3090 under water since I bought it in September 2020. I’ve been out of gaming for a while due to life (kids, etc.), but recently got back into Battlefield 2042.


Over the past few months, I’ve had an intermittent issue where BF2042 crashes as soon as I load into a game. At first, I thought it was just the game, since other titles like Half-Life 2 RTX and Delta Force run fine.


However, this morning, I noticed artifacts in Windows on startup. A quick reboot cleared them, but BF2042 still refuses to work. I’ve tried a fresh install, DDU driver cleanups, and all the usual troubleshooting, but nothing seems to fix it.


At this point, I’m considering upgrading to a 5070 and grabbing some water cooling blanking caps. Before I pull the trigger, does anyone have any insight? Could my 3090 be on its way out?

Edit: I've run Heaven Benchmark 4.0 and Geekbench 6 fine.

What sort of artifacts? Were they black rectangles randomly appearing by any chance?

What driver versions were you using/tried?

I ask this because I had random black squares appear on my 3080 after updating to the 570 branch of drivers. DDU'd and went back to the 566 branch and had nothing since.

Black rectangles on the bottom of my monitor (both screens) I did try to capture a picture on my phone but they are faint.

Driver 572.83



Cinebench runs fine too, I've just downloaded COD to try.

NV drivers are throwing up all sorts of problems for the past months, find and install driver 566.63 and test it out.

As tommybhoy states. DDU then install 566.63 driver. That solved my black rectangles.

Fingers crossed it solves my game issue, to be honest the rectangles haven't been back since I rebooted.

Like others have said, nvidia drivers been notoriously bad recently and I had loads of CTD issues with my old 3080 on anything after 561.09. Would try older drivers and see how it looks

Before I upgraded I had some weird artifact issues a few times on these garbage drivers with my 3080 too. Also went away with a restart. Seems common.
