Is my graphics card faulty?

Hey,

I recently upgraded my monitor to a monitor (Samsung 27D850D) and have since noticed an issue that seems to be with my R9 290 PCS+ graphics card's 2D clock stability.

When the card is in it's 2D mode (300/1350) the screen will flicker like crazy, however if I apply a very small voltage bump (say +10mv) the flickering completely goes away.

Some odd things,

This doesn't happen with my second monitor (Acer GD245HQ)

The problem is much less severe when I have just the new samsung monitor connected, however I can make it flicker by moving windows around the screen.

No problem during games at all.

So does this sound like a faulty GPU?

Thanks for your help.

What connection do you use to the monitors? Does it only occur using DisplayPort, or DVI for example?

What is the refresh rate of the monitor?

Hi Matt,

I've tried it on all connections, DP, DVI and HDMI, exactly the same on all of them.
The refresh rate of the samsung is 60Hz at 2560 x 1440 and that's what I run it at.

Does sound like the card might need a small voltage bump at idle. I can replicate similar behaviour with my cards if i lower the voltage too much from stock. Doing that produces a similar 2d flickering.

If you can, I'd try to reproduce it on another computer - just to be 100% sure that the card is at fault.

Ok, thanks for running that test :)

I'll try the card in another computer tomorrow and report back.

Right so I couldn't test my card in another PC, but I managed to get hold of a GTX780 and try that in my PC.
It worked fine, no flickering at all so can only presume the 290 is faulty.

Trouble is I think it would be a nightmare to RMA as it doesn't seem to happen on all monitors and it's only really bad in dual monitor mode.

Maybe I should edit the BIOS and flash it...

What do you guys think?
