Is my GX2 on the brink?

Hi guys:

Basically had my GX2 for about 1 year and a half now and I've been running the card with the shroud off. I took it apart last week to clean it and re-apply thermal paste as it was getting too hot.

Afterwards the pc would start but there was no signal and the fan was on full wack. Thinking I might have killed the card, I put the shroud back on and thought I should give it one last try. Lo and behold it booted into windows and games worked perfectly.

I removed the shroud again after that and it worked fine for the past week but just now the same thing happened again. Put shroud back on and it's working once more...

Thinking back now the same thing happened once before I took it apart last week but a simple reinstallation of the card got it working again. Seems like there's a connection loose somewhere on the pcb? Does oven trick work with GX2? Should I expect it to die any day now and start saving for a new gfx?

you might have a loose connection with the internal ribbon. make sure the connectors are fully into the socket at either end, its common for this to become dislodged when taking the card apart

Well just took the shroud off to check the connection. All seemed fine from where I could see without taking the card apart. Put shroud back on and it doesn't work at all now I guess something is loose on the pcb.

New card time it seems.
