Is my hardware compatible with Win10?

I've just done a clean install of win10. I've just inserted my CD that came with my mobo but it says not compatible with operating system.

I've gone into asus website to download drivers and on the 'chipset' download it says they are beta drivers and that it is not digitally signed by windows.

I downloaded it anyway (the latest version 11.0.0.1155) and went to install but then got a pop up saying "computer contains driver versions later than the version you are trying to install" (V 11.0.0.1172)

Should I just leave all the downloads from the Asus site ?

Case- Corsair Obsidian 650D
Mobo- Asus P8Z77-V Premium
CPU- i5 3570K (Noctua NH-D14)
GPU- MSI Lightning 290X
PSU- XFX Pro 750w
Memory- 8GB Corsair 1600Mhz
Storage- 840 EVO 250gb - 2TB WD Black

Should be fine. Probably wont need any of the Asus drivers with Windows 10.

I have a similar oldish setup, 3570k and Z77 board and have not needed any manufacturers drivers.

Yea suppose I'll fjust leave them. Seems strange how win10 has found a driver later than the what asus has.

Seems AI suite does not work on win10 :( I liked to set up fan profile on it.

:p

I'm pretty sure Windows 10 will run just fine on anything more recent than a Pentium 4. :D

Try installing drivers for the motherboard direct from the website, if there are no Windows 10 ones, try Windows 8.1 ones, and if there are none of those, then Windows 7 ones.

If all else fails, use default Windows drivers and don't bother installing the motherboard software. I've never installed my motherboard software, I can't see the point. It doesn't offer any extra functionality over the automatically installed drivers.

Chip drivers etc will be from Intel, not Asus. Asus doesn't always check what the latest drivers is for every component on the motherboard as they aren't the manufacturer of the components, merely just putting them all on the same board.

Windows 10 automatically finds the latest drivers so you don't need to bother with the drivers on the disk (which is always out of date) or the manufacturer site. The only driver you should bother manually installing is the GPU drivers, but everything else, Windows 10 does a good job at finding. You can always check device manager to see if there are some drivers Windows couldn't find.

Except the motherboard is likely to have hardware that isn't compatible (and not all graphics cards and IGP solutions will be compatible).

^^ I'm wondering if I should stick to win7. My mobo has a lot of features which I don't think I'll be able to use such as wifi- go/AI suite etc.

Thing is as I've done a clean install of win10 will I be able to go back to 7?

Yes tried installing and nothing happens. I'm going to go back to 7. Way I see it is I might as Well have full function over my hardware for the next 4 years while 7 is supported. By then I'll probably want to upgrade my hardware anyway if not before.

AI suite works on my z77 sabertooth just fine.

It's utter garbage though so would never use it for anything other than the custom bios tool.

Try asus EZ update.

I had the same problems OP. I've tried 2 "upgrades" with old machines and both were failures.

On my netbook none of the function keys worked, I had to revert to 7. I tried manually using the Windows 7 drivers and they wouldn't install cleanly.

On an old C2Q system the DVD drive stopped working and I haven't been able to fix it, Windows 10 just doesn't see it in device manager. Ended up replacing the whole system.

This is the problem. At some point I will upgrade to the next gen of gpu and when I do I'll upgrade the mobo. Untill then I might as well stick to win7 what my hardware was built for and works a treat.

I've got 100s of games to play which my system handles with ease. That will last me At least another 2 years by which time the new node GPU and games will be bedded in. (and prices)

Never do this. They are out of date before they leave press. Throw it in the bin and download the latest ones from Intel.

If you want the shotgun blast approach for your drivers, then use Snappy Driver Installer. https://sdi-tool.org/ Clean and free :), it uses around 10-15GB of space once you've donwloaded the driers, so I'd keep it on a non-system drive. You can safely delete it after running it.

Nothing in particular. I like using AI suite although most say it's cack. That was just the first thing I tried, I can only imagine what else will not work in the future.

The thing is what does win10 offer me over win7? As far as can tell not much and it just brings some incompatible issues with it.
