Hi there,

I just need a bit of advice, are these CPU temps far too high for my i7 920 processor?

Core 1 - 40c
Core 2 - 40c
Core 3 - 37c
Core 4 - 37c

All these are when in idle and not using the machine for anything?

Please tell me if these are off and if my CPU is on its way out? I only have the normal stock cooler on the processor at the moment but Im more worried the CPU may be on it's way out as Im sure they were at 36c last week

Thanks again,

Gauron

If your CPU is overclocked then it is fine

If not then they are a little high. It won't be your CPU on the way out, it will be incorrectly applied paste/stock cooler. If you are worried, then try re-applying paste/cooler.

Or even better - buy a 3rd party cooler, they are much better than stock :)

Run Prime or Intel Burn Test to check for full load temps.
Using the stock cooler from Intel has rarely given me good temps.

cool, will run prime 95 later today - how long do you sugguest I run it for?

Cheers, and yes the weather is a little better this week

Run for hour and see how temps pan out, some people when testing for stability run for 8hrs +.

running for 30 min is fine if your checking temps..after 10 min the cpu will be up to temp and will only rise a few c after leaving it another 1-8 hours tested that so many time and the pattern repeats itself. If your going for stability thats diff mind.

okie test prime 95 for a couple of mins, the results are as followed with core temp running:

Cpu: /Running/ Low / High
Core 1: 68 59 66
Core2: 67 59 66
core3: 65 57 64
core4: 63 57 63

I was running core temp while running prime 95, took a while for the temps to drop back to the normal temps, I'm juts worried it may be the processor. While I am eager to buy an Antec 1200 case, I don't want to be buying a new processor here, if it is the stock cooler, please can you advised me on which to get which give very good are-flow? I only have a Thermaltake Soparno case at the moment so dont want anything that may not fit.

Hope you guys can help here, you've all been great so far with me. Also, if it was the processor, how would I be able to tell if it was maybe damaged?

Down load real temp run prime again for at the very least 30min then report back with temps mate ....2 min prime will show nothing. To put your mind at ease i have stressed the i7 in prime 95 at over 85c for 5 hours and did no harm what so ever
