I'm on sky broadband 2 meg but i only get 1.7 meg, ive removed the bell wires but there may be more arround the house but what i want to know is are these statistics ok for my router or are they slowing my internet down?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2048 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 28.5 db
Noise Margin 22.5 db 13.0 db

could it just be that the 2mb connection is a "maximum", many companies refrer to it as say upto 2mb, which means that you will only get that if reallly no one is on, and at peak times, the conneciton speed drops.

i wouldnt worry,

There are many factors that effect connection speed, not just what your ISP allow you. I'm paying for up to 8MB but i only get half a meg... but there's the quality of the wiring in your house, the quality of the wiring in your street, the distance from the exchange station, how many people are on and many others besides.

If your on a 2048kbit sync then 1.7mbit is the most throughput you will see ever... I got around 1.85-1.9Mbit with the old 2Mbit fixed (2272kbps sync IIRC).

This is why there's all the fuss in the press about the "up to" advertising, all it refers too is the sync speed e.g. an up to 8meg line will sync at 8128, but the throughput will only ever be 7.15m.

Strictly speaking it's legal but deceptive, you're speeds are where you'd expect them to be.
