is my ipod on its way out

got a 5.5g ipod that i think is on its way out got the 80gb about 2 month after they where released and its been a cracking mp3 player, its just on the way to work playing some tracks i noticed some bad crackling and stuttering, thinking the song had become currupt i went to another album same thing thought that it was my headphones (cx300) i asked a bud at work if i could use his same thing, in the past day or so i have put the ipod back to factory settings then synced again still there am really thinking its bust as i cant get rid of it

Sounds like it could be broken I'm afraid, no warranty I'm guessing?

Might wanna try asking over at ilounge too, might be some solutions or DIY.

Yeah the Ipods have a high failure rate really, but it's usually the HDD or Battery.
