Is my line ok?

Sounds to me like your Sync is fine, you just have a lower bras profile or some kind of speed limit in place.

If you are on a BTW product, speedtester.bt.com should reveal your bRAS profile. If you are on an LLU product then a phonecall to tech support explaining that you had line issues that have been rectified, but your throughput seems to remain slow despite your sync improving.

As for ADSL2+ offering better speeds than ADSL on the same line length, this just is not true. It may be the case when you're achieving ~6mbit+, but on lower line-speeds ADSL will more often offer you a better sync (albeit a small improvement).

Even all the stats are the same accept the downstream is a tad lower but cos Ive been messing with the router today. The actual dl speed is still 29k and thats what I dont get, its connecting at 4mb but its downloading stuff at 29k.

Im going to ring my isp up tomorrow, explain to them whats happened and fingers crossed they may be able to reset my line. I think its deff my fault cos I was using a rubbish extension lead that kept on disconnecting my line, and that made my speed to keep on dropping

So can I still have adsl2+ even tho the guy said my exchange isnt fast enough?.

Im sure a few months back when I checked on my isp site on the line checker thing it said 5mb, but now it says 3mb:confused:

If you are on a BTW product but your exchange isn't ADSL2+ enabled, then you cannot have it. Given your line stats, I cannot see any point chasing ADSL2+ anyway as I cannot see it offering much/any improvement.

Posting that image doesn't mean much. Where is it coming from? Are you sure their servers are running at a decent speed?

This is a pretty accurate speed test on a UK site. What does this one show?

And if you just want to do a download test of a file using your browser, make sure you pick a file in the UK nice and close to you. Ideally one on your ISPs own servers. OR somewhere with plenty of investment on a fast pipe.

Oh - and I assume you have already done this. but before you phone your ISP and start hassling them again, make sure you do this same test from the BT Test socket. i.e. when you have the face plate off of your phone socket, just connect your router to that exposed socket you see. (Remember to pop in an ADSL filter while testing). If you see the same stats on the router then - you have a lot more of an argument with your ISP about speeds. You can be certain it is then THEIR problem to trace. Which often takes ages as there are so many people they can pass the blame to.

(You also have a head start as you can mention that you have fully troubleshooted all the internal cabling and used different routers so therefore the problem is with either the ISP or the phone company. A lot of cabling has been damaged in this weather and it is taking them a while to track it all down)

Thats from ATi but any downloads I try, the speed always settles between 28k - 34k

After about a minute of writing this my speed has increase to 1mb:D:D

Wowww over 2mb now

Just ran the http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html?button and its still 1.1mb tho.

At least for some reason its starting to increase now. Plus Ive ordered a new router, mainly because my wifi is rubbish with this router and the router is about 3yrs old

Looks like your IP profiling is re-training. Should solve your problem given a few more days :)
As for ADSL2+, I knwo from experience lines as slow as 3Mbit see drastic improvements. as said previously my line use to run at 4ish, 5ish on a good day once I'd hacked about in the master socket, it's now running at more than double that on ADSL2+ through LLU.
Not everoyone will get that but 99.9% of cases will see an improvement.
All subscriptions have at least a 14 day cooling off period during which you can cancel without incurring a severance charge. So you can't lose anything by signing up, give it 7-10 days to train and if it's no better cancel and move back to ADSL.

Yeah I might just do that, if my isp will let me downgrade my line within 14 days, plus now I have a adsl2+ router on order. Now Im downloading at 3mb but "http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html?button" says 1mb

Thanks guys for all your help.

Just to report back guys the broardband test thing says my dl speed is just over 1mb, but Im downloading stuff at a steady 464k now.

Ive got this new belkin router a few days ago and set it up last night, but I had a awful job getting port forwarding to work, I must have spent 2-3 hrs trying to figger out why it wouldn't open a port. but got it sorted in the end with a firmware update.;)

So, how does my status look on the belkin router guys..........

Downstream noise margin is quite high, so there may yet be more that can be squeezed out that line :) I suspect your sync profile is aiming for 12db target SNR. You might be able to have this adminstratively lowered to 9 or 6 which will likely allow you to sync a little higher. Though whether or not it'll jump up enough to raise your throughput profile is another story. Though bodes well for a move to ADSL2.
