I posted about something similar happening a while back on my PC, its still the same system and monitor I was using in this thread:-

Unfortunately the same thing has returned but this time it doesn't look like wiggling the cable or unplugging everything and putting it all back together again is making any difference:-

It also shows the same pink line when the VGA cable is removed and also in the BIOS setup screen. I've tried a brand new VGA cable as well, no joy. Is it completely knackered?. :(

If the lines were random on the screen i would have said GPU problem. but if its stuck there ur monitor is most likely fubarred.

any warranty left on it?

Nah, it's served me reasonably well. It's about 5 years old, an Octigen 19" Widescreen job. Cost about £60 new back then so not too much of a disaster. Excuse for an upgrade I guess. :)

Annoying though since it did the same years ago when I posted that first thread and I managed to fix it in a few minutes by just unplugging the cables and putting them back in again.

It may be a loose connection in the back of the monitor itself so you unplugging and reconnecting may of moved a pin or something back to it's original position, however now the monitor is older it may not be able to due to wear and tear.

Upgrade? Yes :).

Might be worth a pop taking the back off it and seeing if it can be jiggery pokeried around with and persuaded to 'work' again. :p

At least until I decide what upgrade to go for.

I had something like that on my Samsung 2443BW, had to send it in for repairs.
Started off with a single vertical line, as time went on I got more and more lines, Samsung fixed it by replacing some of the electronics it seems as I still have a dead pixel at the same spot as when I sent it in :P

pink line makes me think gpu - can you change resolution or something to see if the line moves?

I'll give that a whirl and see. To be fair, I've not tried the monitor on another desktop PC yet to discount the possibility that its the GPU. I'll do that too.

The bootscreen/windows start animation are already in a different resolution, I'm 99% sure the problem is with your monitor.

As said above test everything if you can

I would say the monitor is ****ed, but before you upgrade make sure it is the monitor

If you have had it for that long an upgrade would be nice

Yeah, tried a brand new VGA cable with no success, pink line in exactly the same position. I'll try the monitor on another PC and see if its still there.
