Is my new monitor or GPU causing the problem?

Hey guys,

Just fired up some Far Cry 5, and with my new monitor being run at 120hz I thought I would go into the options and change the Refresh Rate from 144hz to 120hz..THEN!!

soon as I done that, the screen went blank..and then started rotating colour cycle..

RED>>GREEN>>BLUE>>BLACK then repeat repeat :eek::eek::(:(

So I unplugged the monitor, plugged it back in, then nothing, just black!

So I then unplugged the Display Port cable, moved it into another Display port on the 480 and then screen back on and in game menu as if nothing had happened???

Please can someone reply ASAP! Im currently ******* myself and getting paranoid about trying games now :(

Thanks!

Neither.
The monitor just didn't like what you fed it :)

It reset when you changed the input / hz value by plugging into another port on the graphics card.
Power cycling the monitor would never have done anything as the graphics card would have still been outputting exactly the same thing.

Quick question guys.

I have just reinstalled BattleField 1 on the computer. But upon first boot, the same thing happened again. :(

Once I unplugged the DP cable and re-inserted it, boom picture again.

I tried re-booting BF1 up once I quit and it went straight to the main menu..it seems to be when first boot on installed games it doesn't like something..?

Oh!, and for the record, it works perfectly in combo with my RX480 when playing.
