New PC bought a couple weeks ago:

E6600
2Gb PC6400 RAM (Corsair C4)
X1800XT
Abit AB9
2x 150GB Raptors

I am wondering if I am getting what I paid for, really. Is there any sort of testing software I can run to see what the PC is capable of, thus allowing me to report results to you (the experts) who can tell me if I've done something wrong along the way? :)

Right I got 3DMark06 as told, but I don't know quite how to interpret these results:Click here

I also ran a 1M Super PI and got 28 seconds. Is there something I am doing wrong or are these results expected?

I have never used a x2 or core 2 chip so forgive me if it's a stupid question, but why are the cores operating at such different speeds?
An overclock on 1 core maybe  I'd of thought that an overclock would apply to both cores though......

1200 points for the cpu score in 3dmark is very bad, I thought a conroe would get more than 3000 points.
I think the super pi score is low as well.

Try resetting the bios to defaults, update it and see if it improves.
