Is my PS3 about to kick the bucket ?

I have a launch 40GB PS3 & turned it on around an hour ago,but got no display,so tried the normal stuff...hold power button till second beep to reset display,new HDMI cable
Now after switching on & off a few times, now & them i was getting a garbled reset screen(double letters & lines down the screen,like when a gfx card goes pear shaped, but no display when i pressed to continue.

Switched everything off at mains inc tv & it all came back to life

Any idea's whats going on.is it on the way out,thought it was dead tbh

RANDOM but if you can stop any downloads you are doing on the ps3! Mine went similer when i was downloaded god of war 3 demo AGES ago its been fine since!
