Is my ps3 dying?

I mainly use my 40gb ps3 for BR playback and had no real problems until the other day.

Each issue was completely isolated from each other (roughly 24 hours apart, with the ps3 un-used inbetween) - I was watching three brand new completely seperate BR's (two films and one tv series disc) and in the middle of playback ps3 signal completely cut out and tv screen went black , with no sound through amp either, after a minute or two picture and sound came back simultaneously as if it hadnt stopped playing

Could this be a heat issue (humidity was terrible where I was in London), or something more serious?

Could be some sort of power issue with the grid in your area, I'd forget about it for now, but if it keeps happening, then you've got cause for concern.

My 40gb has been dodgy recently. The fan is on full most of the time so it's pretty hard to watch films or play games. I've got Continous play and it's going to be exchanged on Friday. They offered me today but I'm working.

nothing else loses power so Im interested why you think this could be causing it?

Ive had the amp on, tv on and a laptop on and nothing else even hesitates (admittedly laptop could have run off battery for a minute without me noticing, but its unlikely)

I initially thought it a disc problem when I first had it but with three different discs showing the same issue thats highly unlikely

This sounds like the problem I had with my old 60GB PS3. Got the console changed which made no difference, got a new TV and now it never happens...

mines been same for last 2 weeks, only on games tho, because its out of warranty the best they could do was sell me a refurb for £130! (with 3 month warranty i think he said)

Hoping now the weather has cooled down, it should be back to normal

about 30 minutes into watching Bourne Identity last night (when it was a lot cooler than of late) the ps3 started playing at 1/4 speed:(

After about a minute of this I gave up and switched everything off

thats what I was thinking :(

I can last a month or so just using a br player I have, but going to need a new PS3 for THE ONLY TM winter release this year :D

When it comes back from the "black out" does it continue where it left off or does it carry on like its been playing? (hope that makes sense)

It continues as if it never stopped playing (ie Ive missed scenes being played due to blackout)

Does it still happen if you're playing download games from the PSN?
That could tide you over in the meantime!

Hadnt thought about that - dont usually purchase that way (due to preference for physical media , outdated concept I know lol)
