Dammit! Got my new conroe bits today and put it all together and powered up. Worked ok for about ten minuted then I shut down to add another hdd. Powered up again and it stayed on for about a minute then shut off. Now I get nothing when powering on, but a ticking sound from the PSU. Stragely if I unplug the 4 pin 12v power plug near the CPU and power up, all the fans and leds and hdds etc come on, but still no boot. Is it safe to say it's my PSU that's screwed? The PSU in question is a Hiper blue modular one that's been working fine for many a month

cheers

Have you triedusing the switch on the back of the PSU to switch it off and on - kinda like a PSU hardware reset - some of them have an overload switch inside that doesnt reset until you do this...

seasonic - quiet and efficient. Is it me or is a lot of people now having problems with Hiper... when i bought my Hiper 9 months ago, there weren't so many, but now im using a Seasonic.

Second Tagan, excellent PSUs ;)

Which one to go for will be according to your requiremnts. Use link I provided to get a rough estimate, because I doubt you need 580w (also read here that the Hiper 580w can only do 480w's  ).

cheers guys! just tried it in my old athlon rig and it powers that up fine, so now I don't know what to think! Could it still be the psu not being able to give it enough juice, or am i now looking at rma'ing the motherboard?

having tried another psu I get the same symptoms. don't even get anything with nothing else plugged in, even down to removing the cpu. I guess the motherboard is knackered! So much for some conroe action this weekend :( Thanks for all your help guys
