All,

I have just built a new system - has been working fine for 3 weeks until now.

In a nutshell:
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2
Abit IP35 Pro

When I power on the system checks are fine and it starts booting Vista and then powers off with the post code 9.9.

If I enter BIOS the same happens after a fixed time the systems just powers off.

Any ideas?

Checked the temperature of the cpu in the bios? See how high it gets before it switches off?

Although it looks like something else if it's turning off at the same point during the windows boot.

Tried it with one stick of ram in every slot, one at a time perhaps?

Just checked the manual and the post code means: complete power off sequence.
Which is a bit strange, can you get into windows via safe mode just in case you have a virus or check for any strange programmes.

If that fails try booting up with minimum hardware and try mem test for your memory.

Can't spend long enough in the BIOS to do anything before it powers off.
CPU fan is going ok and previous temps were v.low.
CPU has not been OC'd at all et so that should be ok.

Safe Mode still powers off during boot up.

Haven't switched the RAM yet - can try tha...

Might be a stupid question but how can I mem test a system that won't boot?

Well try as I said, and get it to a stable boot if you can...Then of course try running memtest if you wish to after that :)

Try removing unnecessary devices as well, card's (not graphics card) cd-rom's, hdd's to rule out power issues and faulty hardware.

Yes it won't boot to windows, but if it does as you've been saying, it should power off in DOS at some point.
