Is my psu man enough for a 1080ti?

Hi guys, I am about to make the jump and get myself a shiny new 1080ti ( I currently have a evga 980 sc ) and am wondering if my power supply is up to the job? It is a hiper 880w type r. I have had it for 8 years with no problems but am reading bad things about them exploding and catching fire and all sorts. How long does a power supply reasonably last and does time effect them in terms of efficiency. As i say i have no problems with it and i love the look of it as it's shiny and blue but am concerned that it might damage some other components if it is put under load and goes pop. I am tempted by the zotac extreme and psu offer but not sure what to do? Thanks in advance for your thoughts guys.

880W is probably double what you need for a single 1080 so even taking into account degradation it should be absolutely fine, but given that it is an 8 year old 'Hiper Explosive' I would seriously suggest replacing it anyway!

A 550W Superflower would be a good replacement. :)

Thanks for that quick response. I am thinking I am gonna probably get the bundle of the zotac amp extreme and seasonic 760w power supply deal as if I need both it seems a great deal. Has anyone got one of the seasonics? I am reading good things about it. Also am I correct in thinking that if I replace both I have the minimal chance of coil whine? Thanks again.

Yes seasonic make quality PSU's although you can never guarantee there won't be any coil while. Also the amp extreme card is am awesome bit of kit owning the 1070 myself. All I would say is make sure it will fit in your case the thing is huge

8 years from a psu is good usage, expecailly with a Hiper !!

The Zotac bundle looks good with a quality Seasonic psu that should last you another 8 years

Haha, yes I have looked and have decided that if I am to put such an expensive card in my machine I don't want to risk it being taken out by my ageing power supply. In its defense though I have never had a single problem from it so far.

I have tried to order the zotac amp extreme and seasonic bundle today but I am on holiday in the dominican republic and for some "strange" lol reason it declined my card. Was hoping to get it delivered for Monday when I get home but never mind, I have waited this long I can wait until Monday to order it and get it on Tuesday. I just hope the deal is still on until Monday. Fingers crossed.

I just have to work out the best way to sell my old 980sc now. With my 20 posts I have a lot of work to get access to the mm before Tuesday haha. Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it. :)

It was not at ocuk end it was my Barclaycard verification. It's fine I will wait until I get back to the UK on Monday morning and sort it out then. Can't wait to get the new card now and play all my games in beautiful 4k

Try avforums.com that's where I sold my 980ti, I don't think you need any special requirements to post for sale adds there.

I had that exact problem when ordering my GTX 680 after returning from Prague in 2012. Card security blocked the transaction. Fortunately a quick call from Lloyds and then to the retailer sorted it all quick sharp.

No I don't think you do, just be aware that until you have some positive trading comments then you may have to post the item first. No biggy, just make sure the buyer has a good long rep and fine :)
