Many apologies if this question isn't relevant to this section of the forum, but I've noticed a fair bit of chatter about PSUs here so I figured this would be the best place. I'm nervous that my PSU isn't up to the job on the setup that I have, and that I'm facing impending doom, leading to catastrophic meltdown which might start a fire and burn my house down.
Or something.
Anyway, I have a Tagan TG480-U01 480W PSU and I run the following setup:
DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D
Athlon64 3200+ 90nm Venice (@ 2500mhz/1.52V 28*C/43*C idle/load)
4x512MB Kingston PC3200 KVR400X64C3A/512 (@ 208mhz 3-3-3-7)
1x 80GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 IDE 6Y080P0 (OS and swap file)
1 x 250G Maxtor Maxline III SATA 7L250S0 (music, pr0n and games)
ASUS DVD-E616A 16x DVD ROM
1 x BFG Tech GeForce 7800GT 256 OC (@ 465/1130mhz)
Soundblaster Audigy 24-bit sound card
I also have a Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower, a Zalman VF700-CU Quiet Copper VGA Cooler (plugged into the 12V line), an 80mm Antec variable speed fan (plugged into the FAN2 socket on my motherboard) and a 120mm Antec fan drawing air out of the back of my case (again, on the 12V line). Each variable speed fan runs anywhere from 25%-75% but never at full pelt.
So far (touch wood) I haven't had a single problem with my system which is Prime95 (24hours) and S&M (including the PSU test) stable. I also play Half Life 2 and Everquest2 for very extended periods of time (anywhere from 2-6 hours at a time) and again no problems.
I often have a feel at the exhaust air coming out the back of my case and while the air coming out of the PSU is warm, it's not roasting. However, I don't know if that means anything.
Could someone advise if this PSU's up to the job or should I be looking at something else? If so, what's the favourite PSU of choice? I've no intention of ever going SLi so that's not a consideration.
Or something.
