Hi

When building my first PC i set myself a budget of around 1k. Iv now started upgrading various compenents eg buying a new gtx 670 for SLI

Iv now got to my RAM, i currently have Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V Non-ECC Unbuffered

Is this good quality or are there better alternatives

Depends how much you want to spend, i would ay that is decent ram.

Look at the speed of ram and the latency, lower latency is better but the faster the ram the higher the latency usually is.

1866mhz and 2133mhz ram from corsair and competitve brands should be within a few quid of the stuff your looking at. I would always try to get the fastest ram for buck.

It's not really worth buying new ram, if you already have the ram you have.

I switched from Corsair Vengeance LP White 1.35V 8GB to G.Skill Trident 8GB 2400C10, wasn't really worth messing about to be honest, but I had the cash, so why not splash.

Have a google around for reviews, some of these sticks clock to 1866MHz, which in a few games could increase your fps by between 1 to 3fps.

For gaming the ram you have is all you need.

example:
move to 16gb: no performance gain
move to tighter timings: tiny performance gain
move to faster clocks: tiny performance gain

You can try overclocking the ram if you want.. I run two 8gb 1600mhz c8 dominator platinum kits @ 1866mhz 9-10-9-27 which are the retail 1866 clocks.
Had to bump the volts to 1.515 though. I only did that because I'd never played with ram before so I thought I'd have a limited bash at it. No noticeable performance gains in games.
