Hiya all very helpfull forum but this is my first post.

My sons sony vaio laptop sve151d11m screen as cracked due to be sat on:(

I ordered a screen of ebay after giving them the laptops model number and an led screen arrived.
On fitting I broke the 40 pin gold connector, now I had to get a screen wire. So I sent the screen back as I only had 7days to return it just in case there were more laptop faults.

I've had a wire, fitted it and ordered another screen, giving the laptop number an led screen arrived.
Carefully fitted it no problems, but the image is very very dim as if the backlight isn't working...

I've now sent that screen back.

Am I right in saying you don't need a backlight for an led screen ?

You need a backlight for an LCD screen which is an led? Or bulb if an old laptop.

I've had no joy with sony what so ever,

I've typed in the screens model number to google and some name it an led and some LCD.

Help help help help

Thanks mike.

Is there a difference in an led and LCD screen then, just had a message of a seller saying I can confirm that both led and LCD are different and the led screen is what I need,

I've tried a an led and it didn't work

Looks like the screen for the laptop is a LED backlit LCD screen. Some folk call them LED screens but the technology of drawing the image is still very much LCD based, they just don't use a CCFL to backlight it.

Screen model number is b156xw04 v.5

Just to be absolutely sure; this is the model of the screen that is broken, correct?

Did you bother to look at the model numbers of the new screens you tried to see if they matched the old one?

Try finding a seller that will allow you to buy both types of screen (one backlit by CCFL, the other backlit by LED) and try both of them, then send the one back that isn't compatible within the return period.
