Ok, so I did a spec a while ago, and decided to up the budget, I've gotten a decent enough monitor for free, so it's given me some extra pennies.

I'll be buying this in 2 - 3 parts, over 2 - 3 months.

Month 1 :

1 x MSI Z97M Gaming - Devil's Canyon i7 4790K CPU & Micro ATX Motherboard Bundle **£18 Saving** £355.98

1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD £42.95
Total : £311.48 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I also hear the stock cooler on the Haswells is utter poo. What about this as a temporary solution : Arctic Cooling Freezer 11 @ £11.99 Bearing in mind I have only 120mm clearance for the heatsink.

I'll be overclocking, but not aggressively.

So, is this a decent system, and if anything, what would you change?

I would change most things. :p

Nah I'm only kidding...

I would change the PSU for a Superflower of some description, anything 550W to 650W will be more than enough, or 850W if you want to get a second GPU for crossfire in the future.

The rest seems quite decent to me. :)

Well I went ahead and bought the expensive spec, minus the accidentally added RAM. I liked the idea of flashy LED on em, but the AMD Gamer series fits the colour scheme quite well (it seems the only colours are red and black for decent equipment!)

I'll do a build log and mini-review of some of the bits, it won't be anything exciting, just a (hopefully) very tidy rig and some subtleish white LED lighting.

All bought from OCUK with the exception of a couple of cheap bits. Roll on October!

That is a triple slot card you know?

It might fit on the outside slot if you go Xfire, if there is room in the case.

Edit, don't mind me, ofc two cards wont fit that case, sorry.

Yep I accepted that I'd not be able to run crossfire later on, seeing as the general consensus is buy the best card you can afford.

Looking at it, I may be able to fit 2 cards if I go watercooling further down the line, but chances are I'll save the pennies and buy a better, single card.

The card is going to be a tight squeeze anyway, but looking at all measurements it should get in with a mm or two to spare before I hit a case fan.

So, was the spec of my impulse buy ok? For gods sake tell me if I've made a booboo before it's too late to change! ;)

As a matter of interest, I've seen 2x nvidia 780s in a 240 air!
