Is my system adequate for a single 980?

Thanks for the replies. I got Tri-X 290 last month to go with my first PC. The only reason I'm upgrading so soon is because of the trouble I'll have selling the 290 later down the line. My friend is building a PC this month and is kindly willing to take the 290 off my hands for a very good price.

If that's true, that's crazy.

CPU: 88W.

Motherboard, RAM, fans, SSD, HDD, DVD, generous allowance: 120W.

GPUs: 165W each.

For SLI, this system probably uses ~538W.

My system with an i7 4970k, so same TDP, some overclocking, a load of HDDs and SSDs, 32GB Ram, and a 7990+7970 in crossfire (so three much higher consumption GPUs) only uses ~800W at full load according to the Corsair Link software.

980 is very efficient :)

As for if his system is "enough" for a 980, well, being as he has a CPU only really bested by the i7 4790k leaving aside Haswell-E, and even then, his will overclock to the same clockspeed as the i7, his system is enough for just about anything :)

I'm expecting to be able to run 980 SLI on my 460W PSU. The i7-3770S CPU is 65W, the SSDs <3W apiece (peak), GPUs 165W x2, so that leaves an ample 60W for the motherboard.
