Is my system good enough for a 2407WFP?

Was thinking what i could treat myself to and was wondering about replacing my 930bf with a 2407WFP. Would my system (in sig) be up to playing the latest games at native resolution? I get the feeling it would for the moment but how long before it will start to struggle?

8800GTS!? I should hope your system is up to it, my 2407WFP arrives tomorrow, and i've only got a 7900GTO!!

A 7900GTO should be just ok on xp. Might have to knock the AA and AF down a notch if you're using Vista though.

An 8800GTS will be just fine.

Phew :D I'm running XP, and I don't care too much about FSAA + AF in games, so yey!

I don't get how the monitors are so demanding?!

I used to run a dual setup of 1280x1024 on each screen using an Nvidia 6200TD, and everyone is asking if their DX10 cards are capable of it, mine was capable of that a year ago, with games from around then, how can the monitors now put a huge strain on the graphics card?

I think they are talking more in games where high resolution DOES put a strain on the card, not just desktop performance :)

If you want a large screen, but are worried about performance due to a high resolution think about getting a HDTV instead.

I have an e6400 and a 1900GT. They play BF2142, Oblivion etc at 1900x1200 perfectly. The only game I can't play native res is STALKER.

I approved my purchase with the wife before pressing buy.

Arrives tomorrow, depending on city link being reliable.

sorry to steal the thread but say you have a 22" monitor, you dont have to use ti at it Optimum Res?

This just shows how one persons 'perfectly' is another persons 'jerky as hell'. According to toms VGA charts, X1900 GT @ 1920*1200 in Oblivion = 10.6 fps average (0xAA, 8xAF, max settings) which I would find completely unplayable.

Just for reference, according to those same charts, a 8800 GTS in the same game/ same res / same settings = 20.4 fps, which to me is still a bit too low, and personally I would drop down to 1680*1050. Nothing wrong with dropping down a resolution or two though, scaling on monitors these days is good enough that it doesn't look at all bad, just a little soft.

(dunno which CPU they used btw, I realize it's significant but assume it's something decent)

I can play oblivion with the 1920x1200 res, it runs okay, definately playable... Thats with my X1800XT 256mb. Bare in mind I leave the rest of the settings at what it defaults to, but still 1920x1200 runs okay :)

Im running a 7900GTO at a slight overclock on a 2405 and it's fine. Struggles a little with the behemoth games but i don't really notice many adverse effects running a game at 1650x1050 on this monitor even though its not native.

Just had a look at this. Whacked up all setting to max in 1920x1200 (except AA left off). I wouldn't say it's smooth but the framerate is consistent enough for me not to be terribly bothered by it most of the time. I guess I could just about play it but I'd rather use lower settings or even res so it would run smoother. There are definitely some occasional low dips when it's dropping into the teens and even single figures and I guess it's that that's taking the average framerate down.
