Hello

I recently got a "cheap" second 4870x2, stuck it on its own small loop and poped it in my PC - all hunky dorey - Except the pump was making too much noise. So i whipped the loop out whole (being lazy - know and i will learn one day) - loosened the pump / res screw, tightened them again, tested much quieter and popped the lot back in my PC.When I booted up I noted that Crossfire wasnt an option in CCC anyway, after testing the second x2 (the one on its own loop) I cant get a display from it at all - Isuspect it is an ex-card

The thing is the LEDs flash then extinguish the same as the live card, so its getting power right ?I have looked at the card to see of ive obviously knocked a capacator / resistor or any other companent, but can't seem to find anything obvious.Ive resigned myself to an expensive mistake, but hold a small hope something can be done, as it doesnt appear completely dead

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggetions ?

Any help is much apreciated Cheers

Hi doing my research before buying my new psu a similar system with both cards at load should draw circa 750w so I plumped for a 1000w which has been fine for over a fortnight. Problems have only occurred following the scenario in my first post so I'm sure its not the psu

Even if I try the "suspect" card in by itself I get the same issues (no picture) although it does boot to windows

The good card by itself or with the suspect boots ok (I can't check cat ai atm as I'm on holiday by given the above I don't think that is the problem

As the card leds go through the flash on off as the good card and don't show any errors I'm hoping the card isn't completely FUBAR

Thanks for the thoughts so far - anyone else got any ideas?

Cheers

I'm on holiday atm and posting on my phone when I can get a signal

I did (try and) post last night but don't know were it is :s

It worked with stock then water for about two weeks until the incident above

I'm hoping as its not completely dead there may be a chance to revive it - ill retry the stock and reseat the watercooler when I'm back at the weekend

OK Finally got round to taking the card out and having a look at it this morning.

I took it ouut and there is no obvious signs of damage

I have taken the Waterblock off and reseated it

The Card "powers up" - LEDs flash exactly the same as the good card and teh card gets warm

The PC doesnt recognise a second card being installed and neither of the sockets give a video out

If i just install the borked card it will boot into windows - but again no signal from either socket (either on boot or in windows)

Anybody any ideas ?

Cheers

I can confirm that it isnt the PSU (if yours is working correctly) as i am running the same setup on mine and have been for 9 months.

Have you tried putting the card in the top PCI-E slot (the one closest to the CPU) as that is normally the default slot for graphics cards. There may also be some setting in the MB bios to change this default lane.

Thanks - Its definately not the PSU and the card acts the same whichever slot I try it it

Ive just put the stock air cooler back on and its exactly the same - boots into windows, no output either during POST or in Windows

Also tried a DVI-D and VGA cables and exactly the same :(

If it was just "dead" id just chuck it, but wit the card powering up and not completely dead I want to exhaust all options befoer I hurl it :P
