Hey All,

I presume this isn't normal, but i thought i'd check.

I have had my 360 since christmas (brand new) and recently it has started making a really loud noise, as though it is eating my disks! It doesn't actually do anything to the disk tho.

However, in some games it makes the noise and just freezes, and tells me it can not read the disk, and says i need to reboot the console. :(

What should i do? I presume if i take it back to the shop i'll loose all my downloads, saved games, etc ... :(

Cheers

Monkiemann

i get the noise as well but only when am play rainbow 6 vegas its wierd and annoying with it freezing but i havent had any major probs with it apart from that

The noise you hear is the laser trying to pick up.

When you take it back to the shop you could ask them if you could swap the hard drives over whilst your there, failing that borrow/buy a Memory Unit.

So you think i should take it back?

I presume all the live arcade games i have downloaded are linked to my gamertag and not the console? so i can re-download them?

cheers

Correct, but you will not be able to play them without being connected to Live.

when i got my 360 replaced the the retailer let me keep the hard drive, they just took the new one out of the box.

well to be honest, i told them, they were not getting the hard drive lol

The arcade games are only playable offline on the system they were purchased on.

That sucks, i paid money for them, how about dlc, like my lost planet maps etc, will i be able to get them again, for free?

Yep you'll be able to download them free again, but you'll have to be online to used the downloaded content. Why? Well it's because MS Live DRM is stupid!
When you download content two licensees are created. One is sent to the console (so any profile on that console will be able to access it) and the second license is sent to the profile that downloaded the content. This license lets only the profile, that downloaded the content, to use the content no matter which 360 it's on (provided the profile is connected to Live).
Problem is when you send your 360 back you loose the licence that's attached to the 360. Now only the profile that downloaded the content can download it all again, for free, and use it again, provided you are connected to Live).

MS really need to sort this out, especially with the amount of 360's that fail!

My rainbow six gives disc read errors sometimes, so the game im hosting closes and the 360 freezes. Is a pain in the arse and only happens every so often.

Yes but the system is there to stop abuse, ie you using your gamertag to download the arcade games on all your mates 360's and therefore giving them the games for free.

I have the same sort of problem on some games randomly it will make a loud strange noise just as you have described and then the message will come up saying you need to clean your disk, highly innoying but pretty common mate so i wouldnt lose sleep over it. ;)
