Is now a good time to upgrade??

I'm currently running a skt478 system which has served me well but i'm noticing more and more lately that I need a bit more punch in games etc.

I would probably be looking to upgrade in about a month. Would then be a good time to do so or would it be worth holding off for a while?

I ask as when I got my current system I didn't do my research properly and about a week after I got it pci-e and different processor sockets came out and I dont want to get caught out again!!!

Intel will be cutting prices of its CPU's around 22nd July. So upgrading anytime after that would be a good choice.

There is never a good time to upgrade as there's always something round the corner. That said, I'd go with the above and wait for those price cuts.

Thanks the machine runs vista no problem but to play the most recent games on full graphics is going to require allot more omphh so i'll just upgrade the main components and either sell my old hardware on as a ready made computer to a friend or ill turn it into a media center pc.

if you read at the end they conclude that regardless of the your spec, older P4/Athlon with AGP boards arent worth bothering with.

Would it be worth waiting for the low end Quad core chips? Shouldn't they be out within 6 months?
