Is now the time to upgrade?

Is this a decent time to spend <£200 on a gfx upgrade (from a 6800GT)? Or is there a super mofo card about to be released in a weeks time that will make the price drop £200 lower than what I pay?
If now's an OK time, whats the best £200 will get me?
Thanks :)

I think the next 'big thing' is due towards the end of the year when nVidia release their new top end hardware. Until then, the 8800GTS 320, 640 and 2900XT are all reasonably cromulent cards, depending on the resolution you play at and the games you play.

Nothing on the immediate horizon that will be better than what is currently available, prices are good for what you get at the moment :)

If £200 is a strict maximum, get a 320MB 8800GTS.

If you can stretch to £230, personally i'd get the HD 2900XT.

Either are fantastic cards for the money :)

The 8800GTS 320 should be fine at that resolution and falls comfortably below your 200 quid limit.

EDIT - I'm assuming you're on PCI-E here, rather than AGP. If you're on AGP, your choices are somewhat different.

PCI-E :)

Is the GTS ok, or would it be worthwhile to wait a whole month longer so I can afford the GTX?
Keeping in mind I hate waiting. Hate it with a passion. :) Is it absolute folly to get a £200 GTS when I could have a £300 GTX in a month (and a bits) time?
Or should I go for the 2900 for £230? :S
Argh!

Welcome to the world of hardware purchasing on a budget :D

There is of course no 'right' answer. The 8800 GTS will be more than sufficient at that resolution for today's games. But with Crysis, Bioshock et al just around the corner, you'd have to be Mystic Meg to know if you'll need a GTX or not.
