Is NY day a roast day?

we always have a lamb roast on New Year’s Day. Is this the normal done thing or are we just a bit different/odd?

NY is our lamb roast day. Has always been since I was a nipper. Very similar to Christmas day celebrations but less grub and booze all round.

I prefer NYD to Christmas day as there’s plenty of footie on.

We will be having roast beef. It is the final bit family meal of the holidays so it makes sense for our to be a roast.

Depends. I've had 6 roast dinners in the last week, so I may lay off for a couple of days...

I like having one on new years day, but frequently one or other of us has to work, so often not possible. I do have a nice lump of pork in the fridge in case we change our minds. We've had a lot of beef in the last week, only one pork roast.

I sometimes cook a nice pork crackling joint for NYD, makes a nice change from all the turkey and beef from the past week or so.

That said, I'll be making some nice thick homemade soup with dumplings and gammon this year.

Steak Pie here in Scotland usually. Just made ours there, along with a big pot of Scotch broth soup.
