Must admit it was more like a feature than a virus or malware. If you clicked on for example the AMD phenom II 965, it gave a list of comparable offers from the forest, the bay etc. All other hardware I tried was the same.
It is only my netbook and I will probably reformat and reinstall. It did look like a site hack though which was my first impression. MSE and malwarebytes found nothing in 30 minutes of scanning.
EDIT This is using Firefox 15.1 update.

It will definitely be a FF add-on, probably 'Web mail Notifier'.
Or a plug-in where the creators have recently added that malicious pile of garbage to it.
