Is OEM ok?

Right i have seen a Quad core OEM for 100 on one site, but 130 odd on another but retail. Which to get? Does OEM just mean no box?

I should also add that this OEM one is new, and comes with the heatsink.

OEM is fine i have bought many OEM chips its just you dont get alonger warratny and fancy packaging, but for the £30 difference you can buy a much better cooler like these

edit: OEM cpus normally do not come with heat sinks but if your saving that much money and get a cpu HSF y not

Retail come with the HSF (which is usually never used if you're gonna OC) and they do have a better warranty - 3 years I think.

OEM means the CPU comes in a little box, and that's all you get.

i normally get oem as i have enough boxes as it is

also yea if you plan to change the HSF then theres not really point paying for the stock one.

personally i never like buying oem as you dont get as much warranty i like being safe wiht things that cost that sort of money

I always buy retail because even though I never use the stock fan, you get a full 3 years warranty......and don't forgot the little case sticker

i got my i7 920 on oem, runs fine, plus it came in a little black bo which was pretty cool

Depends on the item.

OEM Hard Drives tend to have the same warrenty as retail boxes, the only difference in a retail box you may get software on disc, some screws and maybe some mounting brackets. (oem youhave to dl the software)

With DVD/Bluray/etc, the retail pack normally give you screws and software that you don't get with oem.

If you think ahead sometimes retail pack is better even if you don't need to use the extras yourself. I got my E8400 as retail even though I'm using an aftermarket heatsink, cause when I want to sell it on having a new fan may help.

(Even if it isn't great)

Id say the main thing is the warrenty, its longer on the retail ones so its just if you trust your CPU to last

If your OC'ing anyway does that not void the warrenty? Would mean getting OEM made more sense
