Is omitting a qualification classed as lying?

I got pretty decent A Level results, As and Bs.

General Studies on the other hand, I got an E. It looks very untidy on a CV and employers don't seem to care about General Studies.

If I don't include it, will it come back to bite me?

Ta :)

No one cares about general studies, don't bother including it. I got an A in it and never include it in my C.V. It seems a waste of space.

At the end of the day it is up to you, withhold what you do not want them to know.

However, if they want copies of your certificates the games up with your crappy 'E' :p

I tend to not bother putting my french and art down. (due to the grade with the language, and art being well practically useless)

If you don't put it down, Its not classed as lying ;)

So to answer your question, Yes, You can just leave it out. But if an employer asks your if you have any other qualifications then you'll have to state it.

I left out History on my CV because I got an E on it, No problems.

I dont even include my a level grades, and just say what subjects i got them in. Omitting information is not lying.

What exactly does this subject cover? Never had owt like that when I was a lad !

Its a pointless subject that does exactly what it says on the tin, GENERAL studies, a bit of everything.

Defeats the point of A levels where you're supposed to be specialising! Revision is not required for the subject exams at all, totally worthless and very few universities etc recognise it.

I don't bother writing my A levels or GCSEs at any place on my CV -- as no-one cares when you have a degree (this isn't showing off -- I'd dump ALL the GCSEs off your CV if you have good a level results -- as who cares about some lesser, easier qualifications you also have)

Yea also general studies is well regarded to be a 'doozy' as our American cousins say ..

Yes but from an employer view have you ever met anyone who'se given a flying monkeys about if a person has got 'general studies'?

In our office it's worse -- it's a joke which our hiring people point to and laugh at when it sits proudly at the top of a CV :(

Inclusion of education details sort of depends on what education you have beyond that, and what experience. If you have a Ph.D in Physics and 20 years experience as a lecturer at Cambridge, including your O-Level grades is a bit pointless. If you've just left college and are looking for your first full-time job and only have a year in retail behind you, put your GCSE grades down, especially if they are good.

I would also leave off any particularly bad grades if you have done significantly better the majority of the time.

No one I knew took interest in General Studies, the debates etc were all a waste of time.

Especially when we had coursework that actually needed doing!

Doesn't make a difference what you put on your CV to be honest unless the job you are going for is relevant to it.

If I saw saw it on your cv - I would judge you harshly. I would assume you treated it as a doss subject and that does not look good.

Leave it off. I leave different things off for different people. Hardly lying.

I swear the only reason they even bother to grade you on General Studies is to make it seem marginally less a waste of time than it really is.

I understand why the subject exists, and I think it can be a positive thing. The first few sessions I had in college were quite interesting, but after that it just turned a bit meh. The teacher did the best she could, but it is a lot to ask when they have their own subject/classes they need to teach.

Omitting it from your CV will have absolutely no consequences at all. I have never put it on a CV and never intend to!
