Hi all,

I really like the look and size of the mac mini and the idea of being able to move a whole pc easily as its so damn small. I just wanted to ask wether it will do what i want operating system wise and also hardware wise.

Heres what i would use it for in no particular order: (i have XP on my laptop if i need to still use XP)

-Store/organise and Edit photos from my digital camera
-Use the internet
-Edit video footage from a video cam.
-Make/edit website to a medium standard (i.e. not professional)
-FTP servers
-Make/copy all types of CD's and DVD's for data and pictures etc
-Newsleech (i am not sure this would work? id have to use my XP laptop)

I hope there are apps out there for OSX to fullfill my needs, i am looking forward to the possibility of being a MAC MINI owner

iPhoto is good for storing them and there are a few good free/open source image editors like the gimp which are good, but you'd have to purchase Photoshop for better quality editing.

Of course, safer than windows too. I.e. (from what I gather) no spyware/adware/viruses/malware etc. Browsing is nice and quicker than windows for me.

Again OS X comes with basic software for this which is quite good but you would need to purchase something better if it was not up to your needs, but OS X is renowned for its video editing quality etc

I personally HATED iWeb software that came with OSX so I would suggest trying one of the free web editors or purchasing of course.

I use cyberduck which is free and a very good open source FTP client, but theres others too.

You can use Burn (open source burning app) for this or purchase Toast which will suit your needs. Theres also programs like Handbrake for copying and lots of others like this.

The only decent app like this I could find is Unison. It handles NZB's and pretty much everything you need in a newsreader but is not free/only has free trial then limited features when it runs out unless you buy.

I certainly have not regretted the move from windows to OSX and am very impressed with it. There are rumours going around that the mini is going to be withdrawn (correct me if I'm wrong) so I'd get one while you can. Also Leopard is only a few months away which will be even better.
