Its entirely possible that the speed of light is the fastest one can travel in the universe, however, it seems like we focus too much on talking how far away things are and we cant get nowhere.
A mosquito or other simple living being on this planet lives for a mere day... It is extremely limited by distance it can travel due to its life-span... What if, we are the mosquitoes in our universe (or even less) and to other advanced civilizations, a light year is a mere equivalent of a nano-second (dont quote me on the scale, just an idea)
They watch stars dying and being born like we watch weather and seasons changing... A mosquito with its life-span cannot witness seasons changing, just like we cant witness a death of a star in our lifetime (completely)... To them a star blowing up would be equivalent of an earthquake or a flooding to us.
Possibly the reason why we haven't made any contact, is the time frame of our existence is so tiny to other advanced civilizations that they haven't even blinked yet.
Like Einstein said, time is relative and if ones lifespan extends to millions of years, our earth year could be a mere blink of an eye to them and 1400 light year journey is a mere walk to the pub for a pint.
