Is Paypal safe for private transactions?

Hi all,
I'm selling a camera via a classified ads service and have received an offer for it to be sent to another country to someone's son. They are paying me the price of the item plus the shipping cost. They have also provided me with a UK mobile number (whch I havent called yet). If they send me the money through Paypal, what are the chances that they can take it back by claiming I have not sent the item? Or if they're using some sort of fraud trick.

Just googled the email address of the person. It's a scammer

Well I guess that makes more sense in this day and age. But imagine if that was the motto back in the day - there would have been no progress in humanity!
