Is PC gaming dead?

A while back I sold my gaming PC, replaced it with a laptop that i couldnt really game with, changed back to a Dell 1710M gaming laptop, sold that, and have gone back to a non gaming laptop.

However, I cant seem to shake the desire to own a high end PC again, but when I look at the games that have came out since i last played a pc game in anger, i dont appear to have missed much, I know its the summer, but there seems to be a real lack of killer PC titles up and coming.

Conroe has me excited about PC's, but is it worth putting back together a killer rig for gaming again?

I think the fact that WoW has verging on 7 million paying subscribers proves that its not dead.

And looking through the upcoming releases, theres a lot of quality about. Vista and DX10 should also provide some fresh hope for any doubters.

nowhere near mate TBH....

the fact that this forum is heaving with posts suggests its alive and well....

cheers :)

Imo not really. There are very few games that have kept me interested over the past few months. I find myself playing more unusual games like Pro Evo and Flatout just for the multiplayer (not online) rather than playing BF2 to just get more points.

The summer really does hammer your gaming desire. :(

Maybe thats it, the summer combined with the xbox. Ive been close to pressing enter on my basket at overclockers for the past 2 weeks, ive had systems ranging from £700 to £2000, I just cant decide what to do :p

The only thing that an MMO with seven million subscribers tells me is that the real games are seriously lacking in quality to have that many people run to WoW :p

I prefer gaming on a PC to a console any day of the week.

I agree, plus you can upgrade and do more on your PC... PC gaming is definately not dead since it out sells console games.

PC gaming won't die they say this evertime a new console comes out and it never happens, pc gaming = the best of the best visuals around so not a chance.

xbox live has really made the 360 catch up to pc gaming (non fps of course)...

maybe get a 360 if u dont have one already?

is that a fact ? i would have thought it was the other way around. I doubt PC gaming will ever die.

Pc gaming is getting bigger everyday!

As posted nearly 7millon on way, what about fps, look @ steam no idea how many customers but enough.

e-Sports are becoming big, upgrade now!

I am a fairly hardcore gamer - I play and buy a lot of games and by my standards this year I have bought the least amount of games ever. There has been nothing that has stood out. I like a lot of genres so its not just due to my type of game not been released. At the moment I am playing older games: Baldurs Gate 2 and Temple of Elemental Evil. I am enjoying these more than any of the new releases.

The only games that I have really been looking forward to this year are all pre-Xmas releases: Gothic 3, Neverwinter Nights 2, Call of Juarez, Company of Heroes, Faces of War, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Splinter Cell - Double Agent.

I do not think PC gaming is dead but just resting (for the last 2 years). I am fairly certain it is not as innovative is it could be. Hey, but it sure as hell beats trying to play games with a gamepad.

Last year was pretty similar, we had Quake4, FEAR, Call of Duty 2, Serious Sam 2, Civ4 etc all coming out around October time.

Holiday season (meaning the run up to Thanksgiving, through to Xmas) has always been the most active time for releases due to the pressure from publishers to get games out the door in time for this bumper sales period.

PC Gamings needs more new games like the original Unreal Tournament. I'd really like to see more newer games focus on amazing gameplay as opposed to photorealistic graphics.
