Is Plex still a thing?

i can’t comment on how it works but Infuse plays whatever sound format I’ve thrown at it. My soundbar shows Atmos soundtracks being played for example. I don’t get the impression any of the audio or video is being interfered with - Infuse plays the file as is. I’m fairly certain that Infuse just uses the Plex database for info and plays the video files direct from the drive without using Plex further

Infuse is great at dealing with unsupported formats and will play them as uncompressed LPCM.

So if you’re playing back a blu-ray source with TrueHD Atmos for example it will send that as LPCM without the atmos (height) metadata.

Unless you’ve got a high end sound system you likely won’t notice any difference.

I'm a Plex Pass user but I'd happily swap to Jellyfin if any of the clients supported multiple users on Apple TV. Last time I checked Infuse and Swiftfin couldn't do it. Kinda a deal breaker at the moment since the wife and kids use their own Plex accounts.

Any alternatives that have an app for LG/samsung/TCL TV?
Emby app on LG, although I use the Emby app for Android on my Google TV as it plays Dolby Vision stuff that are wrapped in an mp4 format, mkv files are purple shaded on the LG Emby app.

May be the best place to ask but ive been having trouble with my plex on my LG tv playing all content at very poor quality , nothing has changed for me.

I have google some stuff "Disabling Relay" in network settings work for so many but when i do this nothing in my library is accessible server just dies and cannot watch anything.

Can anybody help?

Just finished moving my media to Jellyfin. After Plex needs Plexpass now.

Any reason you won't pay for it? Presumably you've been using Plex for a number of years at least? The lifetime pass was well worth every penny.

I looked at jellyfin (more out of curiosity) about a year ago, but it just didn't feel like much of a polished product. That and the lack of availability of its app.

How are they connected? What does the dashboard say about the LG TV client - i.e. Direct Play.

I seem to recall there were some settings to scale the quality based on the connection speed, so if there was little to no bandwidth available then it would drop the quality - similar to the way YouTube works.

I looked into it a few times but I only used it for remotely play when I was on holiday, all the other features of Plex Pass I didn't use.

And the updated App for Android has turned me off from using it now.

Now using Jeffyfin, wish I moved over to it before.

I host Plex on my Nvidia Shield and has is suddenly stopped auto updating my libraries but I've made no changes. Using latest version of the app for the server. Working in IT I've powered it off and on and unplugged and re-plugged in the USB SSD but it has made no difference so it must be buggered!

Any ideas? Can see if I can get the a log file if it helps. Will try reinstalling the app next.

How are your libraries accessed/shared? I had trouble getting auto update to work with NFS shares then I read that was just a limitation with NFS. In the end I just set the libraries to update periodically.

i have my PC weird via ethernet and have TV running on wife, with two routers setup and tried them both.

All other streaming platforms are running perfectly in 4k offerings , plex looks to be running at 720p or less. The files i have are 4k movies and 1080p shows.

I have tried with direct play on and off, and tried some other settings on/off also.

my main issue is have have had this issue before in the past and i cannot remember how i even fixed it :(

Are you sure Plex isn't being strange and sending your files outside your network to return again?

Id disable internet access via router, or physically and see if you can access your files.

You need to see on the dashboard when you're playing to see whether it is transcoding.

Annoyingly the old client player used to have an overlay that showed the transcode reason.

Transcoding at SD and at 980kbps

That means your client cannot play back the file, and your server is transcoding. There's no 'hw' next to transcode, which means it's doing it in the CPU which is going to be a terrible experience.

You either need to use a GPU to do the transcoding if you have Plex Pass, use a player which can play the files directly (such as an Apple TV or Nvidia Shield), or you need to use files which your client can play directly.

Edit. This is what hw transcoding looks like. I use an Intel iGPU in my setup.

The image you posted shows that the film is playing indirectly which isn’t right. Have you set up Plex correctly on your TV ie a direct connection to your Plex server? Try setting it up to access Plex via your Plex servers IP address. From what I’ve read, LG TVs can easily handle most files served by Plex so you should be getting the full fat 4K HDR experience where available
