Is Plex still a thing?

Gone back to Docker for now, hitting this bug and couldn't fathom out where to get 2.0.1 from.

EDIT - never mind, found 2.0.1, will stick with that for a bit.

Are any of you using Plex with an IPTV service? I'm currently using it with Hdhomerun and it's working brilliantly as I'm basically just looking for a Freeview service that I can set recordings and stream/download to remote devices. One frustration I'm experiencing is the lack of HD content available over the terrestrial aerial service. I'm thinking there might be a way to link Plex to IPTV and record the HD Freeview stuff?

Yes, I use HD Homerun as well. You can hook Plex up to IPTV, but you need to use something like xteve since Plex removed the ability to use the IPTV plugin.

Is that something you do yourself? I'm asking as I'm unsure which IPTV service is available that would be cost effective.

You'd think Plex would corner this as it's the natural extension to their free to view ad funded channels, which aren't too bad really but I can't record them which is the main function I want. Maybe my case is too niche as most people probably stream. :)

No, it's too much of a faff to map all the channels. I tend to use VLC for those sorts of IPTV streams. If it's Freeview, then I'll watch via whatever app on IPTV.

The main reason I use the HD Homerun is when abroad, because iPlayer etc has geo restrictions.

Yea, I'm similar in that I work offshore and it's just easier to download onto my tablet for watching. Plus, I'm enjoying the tinkering aspect so I'll see if I can get a service working and if so then I'll post back with details just in case anyone wants something similar in future.

I so love PLEX. Been running plex servers off and on for years but never really invested the time and money to create something great. I feel like I now have. I'd love to know what others run, how much media you have etc. All run from an i5 NUC

Currently with 1037 Movies (Mostly 4K HDR)
253 TV shows. Got it setup to that anyone who logs into my library only sees my stuff and not plex's free stuff. Nice and tidy. CHatgpt has been great helping sort out little niggles with Kometa, docker and my network.

Love it.

How did you manage to do that?
Funny you should mention that. I thought I had but I was just talking to a mate who uses my server and turns out it was only on my app :(

But here's how to do it

) Disable Plex’s free stuff (the main offender)

On each device (TV, phone, web – annoyingly per-client):

Open Plex → Settings
Go to Online Media Sources
Turn OFF:

  • Movies & Shows
  • Live TV
  • Web Shows
  • Music (if you don’t want TIDAL-style nonsense)

That alone removes 90% of Plex’s “helpful” clutter.

2) Stop it appearing in your sidebar

Still in SettingsManageLibraries
For every library you actually use:

  • Set Visibility to Include in home & sidebar

Then scroll down the sidebar, hover over anything Plex-owned:

  • Click Unpin or Remove from sidebar

If it’s not pinned, it won’t haunt you.

3) Kill recommendations from Plex itself

On the server (important):

Settings → ServerOnline Media Sources
Disable everything Plex provides.

Then:
Settings → ServerLibraries
For each library:

  • Disable Include in Home Screen
  • Disable Include in Global Search (optional but cleaner)

This ensures Home only shows your media, not Plex’s bargain-bin streaming leftovers.

4) Optional but satisfying: hide Discover

If you never want Plex acting like Netflix:

Settings → General
Disable Discover

That removes the last tendril of Plex trying to upsell itself.

Ooh useful to know!

I know there are probably better alternatives stores now but I still use Plex and don’t really want to change to anything else as it just works!

Wasn’t a fan of the relatively recent update that shifted the ui around a bit (on my Roku clients at least), but it’s not the end of the world.

I use Plex and find it excellent for watching films around the house, and also a good way to upload films onto my iPad to watch a few films on flights. I've got just under 700 films on there and whilst I prefer the picture and sound quality direct from the disc, if it's just casual viewing then it's easy to just find a film and watch in the background - In the kitchen for example.

When I ditched Sky because I wasn't watching it enough to justify the cost I got a TBS 6904, however I'm not very impressed, even on a Dell T20 Xeon (32GB RAM) it's hardly reliable for Freesat. More annoyingly I thought that it would be a good way to get Freesat in the kitchen on a spare Pi I had, however live TV was removed from RasPlex on the Pi.

every TV I've used for the last decade has had SAT feed directly into it, don't your TV's have this, saves mucking about with STB and Pis.

The TV in the kitchen and study aren't the newest, and only have Freeview. I had sky Stream, so it was through a network connection in various rooms.

Still better than jellyfin. Just couldn't get on with that, last time I tried it anyway.
I use Jellyfin but not used Plex, With Jellyfin there is bugs and things could be improved but that's what you get when it's all free. I don't find myself wanting to move to Plex yet, but I would imagine it's much nicer to use as its a paid platform.

I had the deal of a century recently.

Got 2 16TB brand new unused WD red pros for £150. I'm so chuffed, stuff like that never happens to me. so currently have 2 16TB Red pros, 2 16 TB EXOS and 1 12TB Seagate I think.

Should keep me going for a while. Had 4 family members watching the other night and I just get such a kick from it. 1 in Lincolnshire, 1 in Northamptonshire, 1 in the cotswolds + me. I need to stop watching the graphs when people are watching.

What's the most you guys have had watching from your server?

I used to use Plex and use Jellyfin now. I can't think of any bugs that I've noticed and I have more functionality with JF as it scrobbles automatically, which is rather useful for me as a heavy Trakt user.

Are you on the latest server build 10.11.5.

Metadata minor bugs, android TV app has some little things that pop up, watched doesn't always get marked as watched.
