Is PowerDVD 7.3 only version that plays HD-DVD?

Got PDVD 7.3 from the Hi-Def suite that came with my LG HDVD/Bluray Rom

after a patch, it seems to play HD-DVDs and Blurays fine however the software is only the 2 channel version (and doesn't seem to allow me to use SPIDF!)...

checked online and PDVD 8 does not seem to have support for HD-DVDs :confused: .. so is there an alternate software that will play HD-DVDs and Blurays with 5 channel?

WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-Ray supports HD-DVD but you'd have to do some research to find out if it supports 5.1 audio (although i assume it does). They have a free trial on the website so that might be worth checking out - if it's not a crippled version anyway.
 
Check the slysoft anydvd-hd forum, they normally have a way of getting HDDVD playback working in the latest version of PDVD. You basically need to copy some files over from the older version of PDVD and edit a file (or two).

You can also have both versions 7 and 8 installed at the same time if needed.

I'm using the software + updates that came with that LG drive and it will let me use SPDIF. Occasionally it will switch to stereo and disable the drop down requiring me to reinstall the software, which is ******* annoying but I refuse to go out and buy the full product!
