is PS3 bluray universal?

Hi all!

I am sure this question has been asked before but i just wanted to ask is the PS3 bluray player universal like the oppo BD-83? i.e.:

1) Region free DVD

2) Remote DVD region Selection 1-6 / Free

3) Remote Blu-ray zone selection A, B or C

Im not sure if the mrs will justify spending about £600 on the oppo if i can get the PS3 for almost a third of the price

AFAIK the player is region locked. Only PS3 games are region free.

Hit the nail on the head. My UK PS3 was semi-useless in the states, we watched a lot of movies on the PS3 and of course, mine was on the TV in the living room

That vast majority of Bluray movies are not region locked. A handful are, but they are the exception rather than the norm.

Most discs are unlocked.

You can check the status of discs using http://regionfreemovies.com/ or www.movietyme.com

UK = Region B
