Is Q fan working?

i'm confused. i use my core 2 quad (oc to 3GHz) for 3D rendering sometimes, and i have a 4 pin fan connected to the heatsink, spinning at around 750RPM. this works fine while the cpu is on idle, with temps rarely ever going over 40 degrees. it's apparently controlled by Asus Q fan, but when i start rendering, the fan doesn't speed up, and temps rocket to above 50 degrees. i haven't installed the q fan software but it should still work (i think).

Also, if i disable q fan, the fan runs at full speed, so i've derrived from that, that there are no faults with the 4th pin.

Any ideas?

In the bios there should be a target cpu temp, so when the cpu hits that temp the fan speeds up.

You can fine tune the fan settings in windows with asus ai suite, iirc once cpu temps reach 60c though, the cpu fan will run at full speed.
