Is resolution a limit of the game?

I have the HIS 1900 XTX and the Dell 2007WFP and so the max res I should be able to get is 1680 x 1050.

But some games have a maximum in the settings - is this a limit of the game, or should they all be able to go up to the max of the card/monitor combination?

I think the game can detect the maximum resolution of your monitor and you can set it by that.

Thats certainly the case with Steam based games anyway.

As thats a widescreen res then older games won't have it, some are coded so when its forced it works ok but others just fall down.

You will have to google/post each game here and see if people know. Even know widescreen res are only starting to be added.

some games can only go to certain resolutions. pro evo soccer 5 is one of them.

Yeah and with some games like Fear you can edit the config file and add your res in, as i used to change it to 1280x1024 as it only goes as high as 1280x960.

The game I noticed it on is WWIIOnline, I think the max it gave me was 13 or 14** something.
