In the last few days ive be come addicted to FPS's!! lol Going through my old collection of them (bioshock, fear 1, UR3, Dark messiah, Oblivion, fallout 3, L4D, just wanted to know if S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is anygood? I know graphics DONT make a good game but are they good? Nothing worth than playing a FPS and its blocky and outdated! If not any one elsesuggest any good (cheap ones) on a budget of a tenner at mo lol.

P.s just ntoiced the newer one is just an extra £9.99 on steam.. should i get the latest one?

It's good but personally Clear sky and Cop are far better in terms of artefact hunting.

And over all imo.

oh if you think MW1 is the best fps ever then you'll be i nfor a shock with the stalker games.

Remember unlike MW the guns are semi realistic not laser rifles disguised as M4s

There's bullet drop and fring an ak 74 full auto while running will give you as much chance of hitting an enemy as you have of winning the lottery :p

Great marketting from Valve by reducing the cost of this epic game :)

A bit buggy but overal a decent game - well worthy of the many hours it needs. It sort of baorderlines RPG but not quite. Does take a bit of time to get into though...

Here's my review which was published in PC gamer :)

Stalker is good if you like oblivion and fallout 3....i am currently playing STALKER....the graphics are not that bad.....I am also downloading STALKER 2009 MOD which apprently improves the game (leaves story the same) and updates the graphics

Lol its more the Online play i enjoyed :D the single play mode was awful

Very, I recently bought it because I was bored and am absolutely loving it.

Though I have had to restart the game because of a number of bugged questions, though to me fair I think the bugs were kinda my fault.

With any mods that improve the textures and add the Sky4CE mod the graphics are actually very good. The paralax mapping is pretty amazing, (just look at brick walls at an angle for example).

It may be better to play the first one with Stalker Complete 2009 first, and then move on to some bigger mods, like LURK or Oblivion Lost before getting the new ones. (Clear Sky especially is a bit of a let down after Shadow of Chernobyl)

Actually thought the single player was very good, very decent, different styles of play. A bit short but very high quality.

STALKER I thought was awful. It was to enclosed, you had to go certain routes, if you wanted to run over a hill you couldn't because of the radiation, etc.

huh?

You could run anywhere
(with the obvious exception of running outside the map which was bordered with fatal radiation, but thats no difference to oblivions big invisible wall or mw buildings/unclimbable hills.)

If a hill (going to assume up mean the garbage pile sin teh garbage) you can get up them with the right suit/chemicals, but obviously running up a pile of radioactive machinery in a leather jacket is never going to end well.

That's like complaining you can't walk into machine-gun fire without dying....

It was to enclosed, you had to go certain routes,

It has big open maps (like oblivion) aside from the underground parts.

I will have to get Stalker installed again and add the complete 09 mod as it sounds like the best one available - seeing as I never actually got to Pripyat last time I played it (I turned off the Brain Scorcher then gave up)!

Its the best mod in terms of graphics but the gameplay is still vanilla stalker. I would recommend Oblivion Lost (you can install some texture's side by side if you wish) for absolutely amazing immersion.

I got it for £2 in steams sales, i would even pay £10 for it, it seems an enjoyable decent game so far and i am using the 2009 complete mod so it does look pretty fine.

The only problem i've found so far though is the PDA menu for your missions they do not show an arrow on minimap for all the quests there unless i am doing something wrong?

Some do, some are in different maps so have to zoom out, some don't and are down to you finding it based on your own wits and investigation.
