Over the past 3 weeks I've had a scratched passenger door due to some inconsiderate ***** resting theirs against mine whilst they do god knows what, some other careless ***** let the wind take their door and bang in to mine, dented the door, had a PDR guy come and remove it for £40, and today, some **** has scuffed up my front bumper!

I'm so frustrated it's untrue :(

Time to sell my car for a beater?

Is this too bad for a 'Smart repair'?

I found the culprit, he says he will pay, the guy was genuinely remorseful and so I don't want to rip him off, my bumper was chipped anyway so what do I do, just get a quote for that portion fixed?

How did you find him, was there a trail of breadcrumbs involved?

Get a quote from a good bodyshop - they will want to paint the entire bumper. For me this is beyond a smart repair. A nice shiny bumper is the way forward imo.
Bear in mind this is a small village (about a mile long).

  1. Builders over the road saw what they thought was a Mercedes C class park next to me and a grey haired man got out. Who then went into the post office.
  2. I went into the post office asking if any grey haired men with a merc had been in the last hour, 2 possibles were mentioned.
  3. I rode around the village looking for mercs but couldn't find any, I knew there'd be paint left on their car as mine didn't have any of theirs, but came back empty.
  4. I just went out again to the suspected house of the guy and spoke to his wife, he had an Audi A2 and not a C class as first thought. On my way back he passed me so I turned round and went back.
  5. He was sure he hadn't touched me but did admit he'd parked between me and another car (I tried to park to discourage people trying to squeeze in). He said he remembers checking how close he came once he got out.
  6. I asked which way he parked and he said he went in forwards, I went and looked on the passenger side front bumper and sure enough, moonrock all over the corner.

So yes it was all a bit of a faff and took time out my lunch hour and now have to stay an extra 50 minutes at work, but I can rest a bit easier knowing who done it.

Do you think I should have taken pictures in case he goes back on his word? Bearing in mind every corners of his car is scratched and I have a witness that saw him park there.

Got pictures of the other car now for proof.

If it turns out this guy can't afford the repair (how much do people think it will be?) what options does he have? Go through his insurer instead?
