hey guys,

i have a FX 8320 overclocked to [email protected]

now idle its at 38deg, when gaming it gets over 60 all the time.
im using a h80i with SP120's in push/pull and at full speed all the time, i dont really want to reduce my overclock as i play some older games and it helps a lot.

also, i was playing bf4 earlier and it froze then restarted, so not only is it HOT, its unstable as well

btw my mobo is a asus crosshair v formula z

thanks

For comparison, I'm running my 8320 at 4.6Ghz @ 1.452v and it idles (according to Core Temp) 18° and maxes at about 60° after a good few hours of BF4.

That's with a H80 and Noctua NF-P12s on push pull max speed.

I did run 4.8 for a while but had the same stability problems, so backed off to 4.6 where it seems happy and temps are under control.

Not sure if that helps at all.

Have you always had it at that overclock and suddenly its not working? If you you might want to check radiator for dust etc/remounting the cpu heatsink. Otherwise youll have to look towards reducing the voltage somewhat

Ive cleaned the dust off the rad and temps have dropped by 6deg, but im also going to remove the block and apply some MX-2 and see what happens

If I assume correctly, are these stats based around this time period? i.e summer. If so then it's possibly partially to do with high ambient temperatures. So what you are seeing is an increase of temperature because it is summer now whereas when you've monitored/seen this before it has been lower because that was possible when it was not as hot here

Also just revise your airflow or where your computer is positioned maybe, standard stuff cable tidy, dust, thermal paste renewal(which I see has already been mentioned) If you've done all of this and it's partially to do with higher ambients then the only thing you could do is wait till summer is over :P, get a bigger cooling setup or reduce voltage/clocks 4.8ghz is a big jump in volts usually from 4.6ghz from what i've seen. You can probably get 4.6 for around 1.39 or less maybe give it a shot if you have the time

im going to replace my thermal paste soon so i shall see what that dose, btw im overclocking by just increasing the CPU ratio and adding more CPU voltage, is this right?

btw since ive overclocked my CPU, when windows loads up, i can use my PC as normal (internet browsing etc) but if i was to click to load up steam or any other app, it takes about 25-30secs then all of a sudden all apps fire up at the same time, how do i solve this?

and im using a OCZ vertex 2E 120GB SSD

Cpu ratio is fine, but test stability levels by lowering voltages once you are able to boot to a speed that you are happy with. Repeat until you get the lowest voltage stable with the speed you want and save/remember that setting.

Regarding the apps, you might want to msconfig and look at your startup programs when your system boots. Get rid of the junk and let it start with the required/main stuff and ofc trim your ssd :D (I assume your programs and windows are installed on your ssd)
