Is steam worth bothering with?

Really It should be cheaper than the shops shouldn't it .... no box, packaging etc...? But i suppose .... steam running costs, servers for downloading latest patches etc.. maybe where the extra £ are needed?

I like Steam in theory, but I avoid it when possible these days after having my account stolen and the £70 worth of games with it. Although the circumstances were very unusual, I think it's highly unlikely for it to happen again. I've never heard of the same thing happen to anyone else.

It does bring up the point that by using steam you are giving up some of your rights. Valve can just take your games away from you if they want. It's unlikely they would unless they thought they had a good reason, but they still could.

you gave some one your password didn't you :p
edit: and all games eula say things like we can change terms etc when ever we like you don't own this your borrowing/letting it from us.

The main problem with Steam (IMO ;)) is that if I'm playing TF2 I can't let my son play my copy HL2 on the other PC even though I've paid good money for two seperate packages/licences.

You didnt get caught by the...I am from valve please provide your username and password or you account will be deleted spam?

Back to the subject. Steam is great. It introduced me to CSS!!!! :D

I demand that you install and play now!!!!

Steam has been ok so far. The only thing i dislike is the fact i cannot choose where i want to install the game directories. I have a 80gb partioned drive allowing 12gb for windows c drive. This is personal preference to keep the c drive as clean as possible, fast defrag, faster virus scan etc. Ive had to install steam on another partition, but ive no room to install anymore games on that partition now. I would like to install future steam games on my other hdd or a seperate partition, but steam only allow you to install the game directory on the same partition as the steam directory which is a bit poor.

No I didn't. It's actually a complete mystery how they got my password, I never told it to anyone. The only conclusion I can come to is that I must have used the same email and pass on an unsecure site (like a crap forum or something) that got hacked and the hacker thought to try the same combination on Steam. The only other explanation is that Valve messed up and got my account confused with someone elses and mine was incorrectly flagged up as having done something dodgy.

Moral of the story, be careful with passwords. Use different ones whenever possible.

Why not reinstall onto another dive?

I have mine running on both XP and Vista. Different drives.

Not really that into steam but can you not copy over the files then uninstall it, reinstall it to point to your new directory?

Really like steam, access to my games anywhere, can backup all the games onto hdd easily, no need to worry about changing discs, can preload new games and play them on release day.

I like Steam now it has other games on it. Having all the games ready to play without the need for CD/DVD is great, plus the Steam Community and Friends is handy.

I love steam has plenty of games avaliable to buy on it now. The only thing that really grinds my gears is that you can't activate games brought from retail on it. Games like bioshock, stalker etc.
I would even pay a small fee to transfer my games to steam. After all if i am downloading the game many times then this must cost steam in bandwidth and server costs.

I like it-getting your games updated is great! As long as the prices are similar, I tend to get my games from stores though. I like having the actual game. There are occasions when Steam is filthily cheap though (others when it is horribly expensive, admittedly).
