Is the CPU enough?

Hi

I have the following set-up:

A64 3400+ (non-939)
1 GB Kingston Value RAM
ASUS KV8 SE Deluxe
Sapphire ATI Radeon 9700Pro 128Mb
Xerox XM3 1440 x 900 19" TFT

I use the computer for playing games like:

MOHPA
HL2
PES5
COD2
BF2
BF1942

Is the CPU the bottleneck on the system or should I switch focus (and forums) to the GPU?

Change that GPU get 2 gig of ram.
 
CPU is hardly the bottleneck, not in current games anyway, and as said get a 2Gb kit and a decent GPU, maybe a 1950pro / XT then you'll see massive improvements in games at your screen's native resolution.

How hard is the CPU being driven in those games?

If I up the RAM and GPU will that give me a couple more years?

To give you an indicator, I am only getting into those games now and due to time constraints it will take me ages to get through/bored of them

I also am getting into more video editing. Does that have an impact on things?
 
That CPU is good for games but not so good for video editing I'm afraid, if you are planning to do a lot of video editing then a full upgrade is recommended.

At the moment we're in a transition from DX9 to DX10 games and thus a lot of new GPUs are coming out early next year. The GPU I mentioned is DX9 based and will handle all games that you mentioned brilliantly, however you may need to upgrade it again next year if you intend to play all the latest games at highest quality settings, otherwise you will be fine for a year or two.
 
:) that cpu is rather good (had one until recently) and i would strongly believe its not currently the bottle neck, however with DX10 around the corner maybe it would be best to do your CPU now, (say go conroe or something) and hold off on gfx for 2 or 3 months? up to you really but just to underline my point again.. your cpu is not currently the component holding you back :)
