Is the DSi completely pointless?

The DS and DSlite can do everything the DSi can do apart from take photos if you know where to look and I'm pretty sure there's only one game that uses the camera and that's not even out here yet. I think even new people to the DS may as well get a DS or DSlite because there being hardly any difference and they'll save £60 cheaper.

Do Nintendo really think there's people will buy DSi if they already own a DS or DS Lite? Many other people bought the DS because it's a lot cheaper than a PSP but now the DSI is the same price as a new PSP3000 which is so more advanced than the DS.

Crazy

I think it is, but then there are some who think a crap camera and quarter of an inch of screen makes all the difference.

It's a bit of a cash-in whilst they work on a next-gen DS i'm afraid.

but it does :<

I'm finding myself playing my DS a lot more now because it feels better for some odd reason. they also added an SD slot with a DSi ware channel which is a bit crap at the moment.

If you can find it for the right price it's worth it.

The DSI is the next gen DS, Nintendo said it was so it must be true. It isnt just the 2 cameras though its the increase in CPU speed and memory that make it different from the DSlite. Perhpas after a while Nintendo will start to use this extra power for more than just DL games.

they also touted special features for DSi owners, like special DSi carts that will only work on that system. Have not heard anything since though.

wasn't it to combat ROM emulators which allegedly don't work so well with the DSi as they did with the lite.

I'd much rather have a massive catalogue of classic GBA games though.

Plus it's a bit of a slap in the face for those who spent money on GHOT.

I love DS lite it's great if you miss good old 2D platformers. I just don't like companies trying to rip people off regardless which company is doing it.

If they had added WPA to the DSi then it would be slightly less pointless. Reverting my network temporarily to the much insecure WEP for some online action (which I must admit is few and far between) with my Lite is something I could do without. A minor gripe really :)

WPA is in the DSi, but old games like mariokart have the wireless functionality built into them and they only accept WEP which is a shame.

No I don't think it is pointless as I am sure there will be a market for the DSi specific stuff like the DSiWare Channel with downloadable games and software or the future enchanced game cards which will work on both the normal DS/DSLite but will contain extra features only accessable on the DSi.

The DSi does have WPA security added to it's wireless, but this is only for DSi specific titles. Older online capable and standard DS games will still have to use the crappy WEP as it is already programmed into them.

It's new toy syndrome.

no it's great! I brought my niece one for her birthday to replace her DS, and it does feel better to play with than my DS lite. once you setup the wifi on it, there's a selection of games to download with the free points you get, one of which is wario ware and it uses the camera.

It would have been better if they added a 3g modem for true wireless gaming thou, but I would hate to see the kids mobile top-up bills if they had.

I think WatchTower is just a bringer of doom and gloom with this thread and the psp one.

You can't game at all on 3G due to the seriously immense latency!

I got a DSi in replacement of the PSP 3000.

I love it, the DSiWare idea is great but at the moment there are hardly any games on there, but when they do release the classics i'll be grabbing them straight away.

The extra screen size is good and you do notice it.

It's worth the money, trust me.

If you own a DS Lite - there is no real reason for you to get it unless you want DSiWare as it's the only thing that makes it worthwile (any maybe the Opera Browser)

sorry peps for coming up with a stupid idea. I just thought it would be nice to have pokemon battles on the school bus, or some other type of mini game where latency wouldn't be an issue or even for posting messages on the web.
