is the 'evil within' gpu bound?

Your experience with Crysis was actually the GT610's fault and not the Pentium 4. The G210 is even worse again! a Pentium 4 and something like a 7600GT back in the day was actually fine for Crysis at medium settings.

ha yeah i thought as much and i know for a fact a 7200gs is useless, think i tried with a q6600 and got like 0-3fps

mickey: yeah, but its also fun to do especially if you can upgrade it yourself.

The 750ti is a reasonable budget card, and you could upgrade it quite cheaply to a 2nd hand 7950 if you wanted to. Cpu could do with going to an i5 as well as an i3 will bottleneck a fair few games these days. Both components would still fetch a few quid if you sold your cpu and gpu to help offset the cost.

It's amazing how stagnant the mid-range has been the last 4 years really when you think about it. Budget cards and high end cards have improved significantly, but the mid-range has totally failed to shift on both sides.

Unless he just didn't state it properly, he said he has the GTX750, which is not as good as the 750Ti.

So that would definitely be a limiting factor. But he still might manage a reasonable 1080p/30fps/medium settings or so with it. It's not a super demanding game.

Also, the performance in The Evil Within can vary a bit with the level or the environment. Dont think the performance in Chapter 1 is going to be the same throughout the rest of the game.

Another thing to keep in mind is if you play with the aspect ratios through the console commands, it can have an effect on performance. If you're borderline, it could be the difference between drops below 30fps and a solid 30fps.

Lastly, they had a patch back in Dec 2014 or something that greatly improved performance on the PC version, so be wary of anybody who gives you impressions if they played it before that(where it had issues).

Really awesome game, though. Was my GOTY tied with Divinity Original Sin back in 2014. This is the game that Resident Evil 5 should have been. Like 5, this feels like something of an evolution on RE4, but The Evil Within is actually really good, unlike RE5.

Ah now, let's not get too hasty now - RE5 was brilliant, I've played through it countless times in co-op. A different game to RE4 but stellar in its own right.
