Unfortunately i have to order from a catalog so the 5700 isn't on there but the 5600 XT is but it cost a lot more, wouldn't he notice the difference with the 1660 super? I'm his mother and don't understand all this computer talk. It's not massively faster than a 1060. If you don't need Nvidia something like a 5700 would be much more bang for similar money.

At 1080P the 1660p super is about 25% faster than a 1060 which is pretty poor for the money.
The 5600XT is a lot faster.

The 5600XT is a decent but faster than a 1660 Super. That would be a better buy.
Guys, she is buying from a catalogue so it is weekly payments. Not everyone has the means for a monthly payment and if that is what is most convenient for her then so be it.
At the end of the day her son has no GPU as it is dead. Fair enough the 1660s is a bit over priced, but it is better than a 1060 3gb card and it gets him back in the game.
On a side note, is there anyone you know that can check the 1060 is actually dead?
Which 1660s is it? If it's one that usually sells for ~ £210 then probably best not doing it.

The 1660 Super is actually about 60% faster than a 3gb 1060, so it will most definitely be a massive upgrade.

Thanks everyone for all your help, one last thing my son has asked is whether he'll need a new power supply his computer is a Lenovo Legion Y520T-25IKL or would the one in it be ok? Sorry for being a pain.
It's an OEM build, so difficult to be sure what PSU it came with. That said, if it was powering a 1060, it will probably be fine powering a 1660.
I'd check the power rating you need a minimum 450w output. Also check the power connectors. Both cards will likely be single 8 pin connector. But check to be sure.
Never mind.Unfortunately not an option, I'm using the catalog so I can pay weekly as that is the only way I can pay.
I did mention that in my post but I went back and re-read some of the previous comments and didn't think it was suitable so I edited it out, by all means give the finance option a go it should work out cheaper then those catalogue prices.I've just noticed they have finance on Overclockers website I might see if I can get excepted, I'll not hold my breath though lol.
