Is the GTX 470 considered old?

2010, but having a look at GPU charts(google it) it's in the high end cards section and about half way down, so to me that says still a high end card, however it seems to be regarded as pretty dated tech. I like the price though, what do you think, maybe buy one then SLI another later on?

It is old, factually.
It's an older higher end card, certainly isn't worth buying now unless we're talking like 50 quid.

I did use two in SLI a long time ago, and they were very powerful for the time, but very hot and loud.

I think it's pretty close to a GTX560, pretty much identical performance.

I think if you have one then adding another for sli would be feasible to some people
I wouldn't be buying one then another for the same purpose i think you should be aiming at newer cards before that.

Still capable for 1080p but on lower settings, my old man still uses one of my old ones but in SLI you will have VRAM limitation problems.

I ran 2 for a little while when BF3 came out but the stuttering caused by running out of VRAM was horrible

Not bad little cards for what they are - overclock a ton possibly 7850 speeds on max overclock (stock clocks are quite low for what most of them are capable of) but the VRAM limits their potential in SLI - for comparison in BF4 IIRC my old pair in SLI were getting 86-88 fps in places my 780 was getting 140ish.

T Rex?

GTX 470 is a decent performer. But relatively it is no longer a high-end card, but a mid-range or low mid-range considering it performs on par with GTX 650 Ti non-Boost. If you look at GTX 780/ R9 290 performance for example when compared to the 470 you will look at about triple the performance if not more, nowadays this level of performance is what is called high-end performance.
I agree with posts above, unless you find one very cheap then I don't recommend to SLI it. GTX 470 while is a good performer at the same time it is a very hot, loud & power hungry video card, for the noise/ power draw levels there are just much better alternatives nowadays IMO.

Tell me about it.
I know that when I go to sleep, I'll be woken up by my alarm, to go waste my life for 9 hours.

North East blows for jobs.

Anyone from the North East want to offer me a better job :p?
